DC Stav Club
learning Stav in the National Capitol

The Park Police asked us to put away our sticks and not bring them back at our last meeting.   Since the sticks are a good 3/4 of what we know how to do in Stav, we decided to leave the National Mall.

Sadly within the entirety of Falls Church, Fairfax City and Fairfax County, there are no parks with lawn areas so close to a metro station.   We are pondering locations in Arlington, but in order to not have to stop practicing just to find a park we can practice in, we decided to temporarily use Draper Dr. Park.

Draper Dr. park in Fairfax City is accessible from Vienna Metro via three busses.  Cue bus Gold 2 towards George Mason goes right past it.  Cue bus Gold 1 stops at both Kingsbridge and Blake and Fairfax Blvd (rt 50) and Draper Dr.  They are equidistant from the park, but I think 50 and Draper feels closer.  (if coming the other direction, gold 1 goes right past and gold 2 stops at those two locations) Lastly the 2B towards Arlington(Ballston i think) stops at Blake and Kingsbridge (though from a different direction).  For driving directions, we recommend Google maps.  Search on Draper Drive Park Fairfax VA 22031.

If you are interested, due to it’s closeness to our house, we can also meet earlier in the evening, but for now we are leaving it as Mondays 7-9 (more like 7-8:30).

If you are having trouble finding us in the park, cross diagonally from the entrance to the park and look for a high burm under the trees.  If we’re not there take the walking path toward Ranger Rd.  (straight walk from the park entrance area toward the trees).  If all else fails, call my cell phone (if you don’t have it, just post a response to this post that gives me your email address and i’ll send it to you.

See you there.

It’s been a pretty wet spring so far, but when it HAS been dry, we’ve been meeting on the Mall.  They’ve blocked off our normal areas for whatever reasons, so we may have to range further to find a valid spot this year, but unless the center section is full of softball or field hockey we’ll try to hang out there and stay near the metro.

If you can’t find us at all, you can try to call me.  If you don’t have my number post a reply with your email (it won’t go up on the website, I’ll get it first for approval) and I’ll email you my cell phone number.

If it looks damp or rainy, if it is a code red or code orange day, assume we are cancelled.  I will try to contact the mailing list if I’m cancelling, so these are broad suggestions, but i have a member who doesn’t email very often, and who’s phone number I have lost, so I wanted to give a broad set of rules.  I’d rather you didn’t come when we were meeting than that you did come when we werent.
